Shannon Vaitier Weaver
Shannon Vautier Weaver
enlisted in he United States Army in 1997. In November
2001 he became a SPC-CPL and was stationed in Warner
Barracks Germany. While stationed in Warner Barracks,
Weaver served as a combat engineer, team leader,
completed two operational deployments, one in Germany
and the other in Bosnia Hercegovina. He became a Sgt.
and completed an eleven month combat deployment in Iraq
in February 2003.
In January 2005 Weaver
was reassigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team
(Airborne), 25th Infantry Division in Fort Richardson,
Alaska. While stationed there he served as a team leader
and a squad leader and in July 2006 he became a Staff
Weaver went to Iraq on a
combat deployment in October 2006. Staff Sgt. Shannon
Weaver lost his life May 21, 2007 in Iraq Baghdad, Iraq
supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He was the recipient of
the Weapons Qualification Badge, the Parachutist Badge,
the Driver and Mechanic Badge, the Combat Action Badge,
the NATO medal, five Overseas Service Ribbons, the Army
Service Ribbon, the Noncommissioned Officers
Professional Development Ribbon, the Global War on
Terrorism Expeditionary medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal,
the National Defense Service Medal, 2 Army Good Conduct
Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, the Kosovo
Campaign Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, the Purple
Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.
Shannon was born on
January 13, 1979 in Floyd County. He, as a young boy
lived with his grandparents, Joan and David Weaver in
Esom Hill, Georgia/Borden Springs, Alabama area. Shannon
Attended school in Polk County and was a1994 of Piedmont
High School in Alabama.
He was baptized in Shiloh
Baptist Church in Esom Hill, Polk County, Georgia.
Staff Sgt. Shannon Vautier Weaver, age
28, passed away on May 21, 2007.
He is preceded in death by his brother,
Staff Sgt. Weaver is survived by his
wife, Desiree’ Vaughn Weaver; mother, Chonnie Russell;
father, George Weaver; sister, Dusty Weaver and
grandparents, Joan and David Weaver.
The funeral service will be conducted on
Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel of the Olin
L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Wright
officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist
Church Cemetery with full military rites.
The family will receive friends on
Saturday, June 2nd from 6:00p.m. until 9:00p.m. at the
Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.

Shannon will greatly be
missed. He has left a large hole in the heart of his
grandparents. They was so proud of who Shannon had
