|William Patrick Martin, agronomist,
was born on July 9, 1891, in Fisher County, Texas, the son of J.
P. and Josephine (Lynde) Martin. He received a B.S. degree in
agronomy from Texas A&M College in 1915. On October 14, 1917,
he married Iris Sikes; they had two sons. Iris Martin died in
1922, and on April 17, 1928, Martin married Annie Blevins in
Dallas. In 1936 he began developing the later famous Martin
Combine Milo Maize, which was first offered to the public in the
spring of 1941. Martin was selected as "Top West Texan"
in 1943. He died on November 26, 1965, and was buried in
Resthaven Mausoleum, Lubbock.
