BUDAPEST CEMETERY

The following is a summary of the Budapest Cemetery and also I am adding side notes as well.

Fire has made its mark on the Budapest Cemetery in past years and many of the graves that were marked by a wooden cross can no more be recognized as no records were kept, at least to my knowledge.

John Alberti

Anna (Lakotas) Escedy-Alberti

* Anna Lakotas was the daughter of Nikolas and Rosalia Lakotas. They were of Hungarian origin. She married Joseph Escedy and had children with him. At his death she then married John Alberti. She outlived both husbands. Both of her husbands were also Hungarian as well.

John Bahan

*Mr Bahan was of Hungarian origin. After his death, his wife and son, also named John but went under the spelling of "Bahn", moved north to Lorain, Ohio. Mrs Bahan died and is buried there.

John Bahn married Mary Lessett, a daughter of Peter Lessett Sr. and they lived and worked in Lorain, Ohio and had 5 children, some of whom are still living.

* Mr Polyak was of Hungarian descent as well.

Ignatius Buzady

* He was married and was of Hungarian descent. It is unknown to me what became of his wife.

* He was of Italian descent and supposedly died of an illness due to an accident.

Louis Fekete

Mary (Nemeth) Fekete

* The name "Fekete" is of Hungarian origin and in English means "Black".

* Mary was a daughter of Joseph and Katherine Nemeth, also of Hungarian descent.

Marie Zuercher

* The Zuercher family was of Swiss origin. After Budapest began failing due to the Prohibition Act of 1909, Mr Zuercher went north to Pennsylvania for work. On his initial trip he was killed in an accident. He wife and children followed though and lived their life out in Pennsylvania. I have a copy of a handwritten letter that Marie's sister Anna wrote in the 1950's / 1960's with details of life in Budapest and their life after moving back north.

* Both were of Hungarian descent. After Mr Lakotas' death, his wife made her home with her daughter until her death in 1926.

George Poor

* Was of Hungarian descent. He was not married and lived his summers in the Budapest settlement, staying with his sister, Mrs. Julia Anna (Poor) Rado and her family. During the winter months he lived in New York City where he was employed as a "furrier" making clothing from animal furs and pelts.

Ignatz Rado

* Was born in Hungary. He and his wife, Julia Anna (Poor) Rado, arrived in America and made their home in the Manhattan section of New York City. They migrated to the newly formed settlement of Budapest in Haralson County.

Ignatz served in the Hungarian Anny prior to his immigration to America and elevated to the rank of a "hussar" (general) in the Army there.

* Was the last child born to Ignatz and Julia Anna (Poor) Rado and lived but only for a few months.

Helen Rado

* Was the first child of Albert and Pauline (Estavanko) Rado and was stillborn. A physician in the area, Dr Rogers, was said to have not paid attention and the child was born with the cord wrapped about its neck.

The childs coffin was built by her uncle, Frank Holley and the baby was said to have had blue eyes. She was the first person buried in the Budapest Cemetery.

The other children that Pauline and Albert had were both delivered by way of a midwife.
