County Courthouse: Land records from 1883 Vital Records: Birth and Death from1885. Copies (certified) $9.00 Marriage: from 1885. Copies $2.00 (uncertified) Probate Records: from 1883 They have a probate search service with no charge for searches. Copies are $1.00 per page, no minimum on pages. Just a small note; the birth and death copies are high because they are certified. You might ask if they issue uncertified copies. Some do others do not. It all depends on how they interpret the Texas law concerning vital records copies. |

We now have two ladies; Vickye and her daughter Michelle, who have volunteered to do look-ups and in general be local scouts in and around Stanton, the County seat of Martin County. if you have questions, we will let them try to find the answers in Stanton. I am inserting a portion of the last e-mail I got from Vickye so people can see what we are trying to do for Martin County.
"I don't know about local groups but my next trip to town will try and do something about that at the Museum. Hang a post card or something. I have already told them at the library, and brought up the Martin Co. page and they marked it in favorites. So they know we will be doing this. I talked with Bob Davenport at the Community Center also. I told him would like to advertise the Gazette if it was alright with him, etc. I then explained to Mrs. Thrailkill at the Museum that we weren't doing this for a business. We did it to help others, and we ask others to help us in different states, and county's. Michelle knows the lady that did the Reid Genealogy maybe she will call her about any local groups in town. The Museum lady told me there were folks that did that, but didn't tell me who. She also said, "she didn't know about a group". There must have been one at one time since one of the books is by Historical Commission in 1979."
