Published in the Midland Reporter-Telegram on 9/13/2006. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OBITUARY Name: Winnie Irene Thompson, 83 Died: Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in Stanton, Texas Winnie Irene Thompson, 83, of Stanton, died on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in a Stanton hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the Downtown Church Of Christ of Stanton with Roddy Hamilton nephew, officiating. Assisting will be Van Pendergrass, minister of Downtown Church Of Christ. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. She was born on June 23, 1923, in Roscoe, Texas to Albert and Myrl Gardner and married David Thompson on October 11, 1942 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She lived in Stanton 44 years and worked at Davenports Drygoods in Stanton for a number of years. She was a member of the Church of Christ, and also a member of the Home Demonstration Club in Littlefield. Winnie was an avid softball and volleyball player and had been a member of the District Champions Volleyball Team at Woodson High School in 1939 and the Girls National Softball Team of 1951. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, David Thompson of Stanton; one daughter, Di Anna Thompson Anderson of Lindale;three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donny D. and Betty Thompson of Midland, Glenn Dale. Thompson of Midland and Darrell L. and Debbie Thompson of Stanton; two sisters, Ruby Wells of Midland and Dolly Shelton of Tye; one brother, Ted Gardner of Ada, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jack and Troy Gardner. The family suggests memorials be made to the Martin County Hospital, P.O.
