Stanton woman pleads guilty to manslaughter charge in child's death

STANTON, TEXAS - The case against woman who hit and killed a boy as he was
trying to get on a school bus last year, won't be going to trial, after all.

Tuesday, she made a plea deal with prosecutors.

NewsWest 9 has learned that Julie Luna will plead guilty to manslaughter, and
will now spend the next six years in prison.

Her trial was scheduled to start Tuesday.

The 35-year-old hit and killed 11-year-old Michael Almanza, last October,
right in front of the boy's house along the Interstate Highway 20 service
road, in Martin County.

Michael's older brother, Brandon, also got hit, but he survived.

At the time, Luna told Texas Department of Public Safety troopers that she
didn't see the boys.
