In the heart of Texas, Runnels County was formed in 1859 and organized in 1880.
It has 5 towns and several small communities.
Ballinger is the county seat.
The other towns include Winters, Miles, Rowena, and Wingate.
The population of the county in 1880 was 980.
In 1890 the population was 3,193.
In 1900 the population was 5,279.
In 1910 the population was 20,858.
The population of Runnels County has never exceeded 23,000.
