1st Lt. Eric David Yates



 1st Lt. Eric David Yates, 26 of Rineyville, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 in Zhari district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan. He was a native of Hardin County and attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was a 2003 graduate of John Hardin High School and a 2008 graduate of the ROTC program at Western Kentucky University. He served in the Army's 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division from Ft. Campbell. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patty Crabb and Mildred Yates. He is survived by his parents, David and Kathy Crabb Yates of Rineyville; one brother, Nathan Yates of Rineyville and his grandparents, Herbert Crabb of Sikeston, MO and Lawrence Yates of Elizabethtown. There will be a campus memorial service Thursday at 4 p.m. CT at Western Kentucky University The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Lincoln and Rev. Stanley Osborne officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home.
